The surgery and the fun after

So,
As promised here is the surgery story. October 25th I had a Tonsilectomy and a cyst removed from my left maxillary sinus (the ones behind your cheek). Surgery went good, as you can see from me waking up from the general here.

The surgery itself lasted almost 4 hours, and would have started on time if it had not taken 10 attempts and 3 blown veins to get the IV catheter into a vein. I was wonderfully bruised...

When I got home that day I was doing pretty good, I was able to text a few people and let them know all went well but it was pretty hard to talk cause my throat was very raw. It felt like they had glued sand paper to the roof of my mouth and each time i swallowed the grit was running down my throat, scratching the whole way down. Thankfully they gave me Liquid Lortab, which for those of you who don't know it is a narcotic mixed with tylenol and used for "moderate to moderately severe pain" as the bottle says. I pretty much slept for a few days except to get up and do random things since you can't really rest when you have a one year old. Even if other people are there to help out the maternal instinct is still there. The next pics are not the prettiest, as they are of my throat. The first one is the morning after, the second one is 3 days after and the last one is 6 days after.

So, my mom and husband watched Gavin the day of and that whole weekend. But, Gavin had to go to daycare the following week and guess who had to take him, while on liquid lortab none the less. So, he goes to daycare that Monday, Tuesday, and gets dropped off Wednesday and I get home and 2 damn hours later the phone rings, it's the daycare. Someone had to come get him because he had blisters on his hands and feet from a child who had bit him the week previous that hand HFMD (hand and foot in mouth disease) normally this would be no big deal cause you just get some blisters on your hands and feet and in your mouth then they go away a week later. But lucky me, I just had throat surgery and it could be extremely dangerous to me and put me in the hospital. So, I had to have Mike leave school and take off work (which got him suspended for 3 days) and this is what Mike looked like for a few days after, so I didn't get it.

It was definately an interesting week. Gavin didn't get the blisters in his mouth and he only ended up with a total of 5 blisters on his hands and feet. But guess what...Mike got it!!! Thankfully he was in Tucson for his drill weekend because his hands and feet were covered. When he came back they were pretty much gone but he still had to sleep on the couch for a few nights to be sure. Now, I'm doing pretty good, I had a follow up on Friday and everything looks good except that I got a throat infection which happens pretty frequently in adults when the scabbing starts to come off of the tonsil site. So they put me on a massive 2 day dose of antibiotics to knock it out and I go back on the 20th for a recheck. The surgery itself and the recovery weren't really bad it just hurts like hell to swallow anything, I lived off of crushed ice and slimfast for the first week and graduated to mac & cheese and popcicles after that and I have been eating real food for about 4 days now and it's very sore to eat anything that's not soft but not any more sore then if you had a cold. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Oh, yeah. Could've done without those pics! When you're feeling better, I'll make you my 7-layer-dip!
